Seahawks continue the tradition of winning the games against Tychy Falcons. In the most interesting match of the second round of LFA1, the Seahawks didn’t fail, winning against the Silesians once again, this time 32:27.
Seahawks Gdynia inaugurated the home games of 2019 season with this match. The first surprise awaited fans already at the beginning of the game – most of the players entered the field and after this, the defensive formation came one by one to present themselves to the crowd. The first touch of the ball showed that the Falcons will not be able to get a historical win against Seahawks. After a kickoff, Jakub Mazan caught a ball to run some 90 yards and deliver the ball into the endzone. Wojciech Daniszewski didn’t manage to add points, as his kick got blocked. The guests used this opportunity and got in front just minutes after. First, Falcons showed their defensive skills – LaParish Lewis got an interception after Philip Juhlin tried to pass the ball. Krzysztof Richter followed the good defensive play sacking the hosts’ quarterback. It was him that added points with a kick right after 35-yard passing attempt ended with a touchdown by Grzegorz Dominik. It wasn’t long though until Jakub Mazan came back to guests’ endzone. This time he used a 15-yard pass well. The hosts weren’t able to get a successful PAT again, but they were leading 12:7 anyway.
In the second quarter, just as a week ago in a game against Wilki Lodzkie, Arkadiusz Cieslok, who normally plays as DL appeared as a running back. Thanks to him, the Seahawks could enjoy further points after he delivered the ball into the endzone. Jakub Mazan tried to score a PAT as a kicker, but he didn’t succeed too. The last points of the quarter came thanks to Mateusz Miotke who got a touchdown after a 29-yard passing attempt. Finally, the hosts managed to add some points thanks to a good ball by Philip Juhlin straight into Michal Jarocki’s hands. Seahawks Gdynia left for a break with 26:7 on the scoreboard.
Seahawks’ play after the break looked much worse than in the first half though. Falcons, on the other hand, opened the third quarter with a touchdown by Grzegorz Dominik after 32-yard passing attempt. Richter didn’t manage to add any points. In the same part of the game, very effective action was shown by a duet Keith Ray and Tomasz Nowak. This ended with a touchdown after a 63-yard passing play. As a result, the Seahawks’ lead decreased to just 6 points.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Falcons had an opportunity to gain the lead. They were already in the red zone when the hosts’ defense managed to push them away. As a result, the guests had to punt. In the fourth quarter, the fans could see two sacks, one on each side. Dominik Sikora for Falcons and Bartosz Domazalski for Seahawks. At the end of the game, the players from Gdynia got some more air using Falcons’ mistake, which ended with an interception just 10 yards from the endzone. Arkadiusz Cieslok needed tow runs to get his second touchdown of the game. In the last minute, the team from Tychy could only decrease the point distance. Keith Ray delivered the ball into hosts’ endzone after a short run and Krzysztof Richter set the score with a good kick. The final result 32:27 appeared on the scoreboard.
– We entered the game focused and executed our goals well. Defense, the offense as well as the special formations were almost without mistakes. We were using the opponent’s fails and it seemed they couldn’t really cause any danger. All that didn’t work were PATs in the first half. Unfortunately, the second half was a totally different story. We could neither finish our plays nor get touchdowns in the third quarter, what the opponents used well and caught up with a score. Fortunately, the fourth quarter showed, that we can take what’s ours and thanks to a diligent game we were the ones to finish the game as winners – summed up Tomasz Peciak, the offensive lineman of Seahawks Gdynia.
Seahawks now have one weekend of break and they will play a home game on the 14th of April again, this time hosting Warsaw Mets. Falcons have no time to rest though, as they will travel to Warsaw on Saturday to face the champions of Poland.
– The opponents from Tychy played a very good game, it was a very fierce match. Thanks to their good form we know what we need to improve now. After today’s game, as a team, we need to focus on executing our plays. In the offense, we need to improve both catching passes and blocking. When it comes to other formations, we need to dominate on the field more, as our matches should be controlled by us from the beginning, to the end in all aspects. We need to work hard. Our next goal is winning against the team from Warsaw – said Mateusz Miotke, who scored for the hosts in the second quarter.
